SCONES
We had the last two scones available late on a Sunday afternoon, which wasn’t a promising prospect. However, they turned out to be absolutely delicious. They were large, golden, fruit scones—so crunchy on the outside they were almost biscuity, so soft on the inside they melted in the mouth. Fan-tastic!

CREAM
A standard National Trust offering – Rodda’s clotted cream carton.

JAM
A standard National Trust offering – Wilkin & Sons Tiptree jar (Raspberry).

TEA
A Taylor’s of Harrogate Earl Grey tea bag in a stainless steel tea pot which had seen rather better days (lid wouldn’t close).

AMBIENCE & SERVICE
This is the standard NT tearoom offering—canteen style self service, choose your scones, jam, cream and tea at the checkout. The staff were absolutely charming, and the frescoed surroundings were attractive.

Score: 7/10
