Four Pillars, Cotswold Water Park
Lake 6, Spine Rd E, South Cerney, Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL7 5FP
28 October 2014
SCONES
Two medium-sized, warmed fruit scones. Really delicious!
CREAM
A generous dish of lovely clotted cream. More than enough for the scones.
JAM
As with cream, the dish of strawberry jam was very generous and more than plentiful for the two scones.
TEA
In the absence of Lapsang Souchong we chose Earl Grey. The tea was the only disappointing aspect of the offering here at Four Pillars, as we’re not keen on having a pot of hot water and a dry bag supplied separately. Others might disagree, but we subscribe to the cardinal rule that black tea should be made with boiling water (212F) and not just quite hot water. Better still of course, would be leaf tea.
AMBIENCE & SERVICE
The waiters were charming and the crockery clean. The bar/reception area of the smart Four Pillars Hotel is quite large and open, but it still afforded a comfortable and pleasant environment to enjoy an excellent cream tea. Incidentally, for a Hotel, this Cotswold Cream Tea was remarkably good value at £6.50.
Score: 8.5/10 ~ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
