SCONES
We selected a sultana scone at the counter. Although it was 3:30pm (a perfect time for an afternoon cream tea?), the scone was a little hard and not as fresh as it might have been earlier in the day. Nevertheless, once loaded with jam and cream it still provided an enjoyable eat.
CREAM
A perfect amount of lovely clotted cream served in an attractive white dish.
JAM
For us this was the highlight of the cream tea. There was no choice of jam, but the raspberry preserve, again served in a white dish, was delicious. Full of fruit, sweet and tart all in one. Excellent.
TEA
There was a good choice of loose-leaf teas and the Canton Tea Co Lapsang Souchong, served in a cheery, red Stump teapot provided a delicious brew.
AMBIENCE & SERVICE
As you might expect, Turner Contemporary Cafe is a canteen style, self-service affair. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the crockery was clean. Our window-seat view, overlooking Margate bay was superb.
SCORE 8/10 ~ Good
