SCONES
With the choice of plain or fruit scones on offer, we opted for the non-fruit variety. We thought the large scone would have been perfectly fine cold, rather than being overly micro-waved into a soft, spongy cake. Disappointing.

CREAM
Served in a small, white ramekin, the clotted cream had possibly been left at room temperature for too long, which meant it was so runny it had to be gently persuaded to stay on top of the jam.

JAM
The best component of this cream tea was the wonderful, locally produced (Jenny’s Jams) raspberry jam which was fruitful and flavoursome.

TEA
Not a huge choice of teas, but they were loose-leaf and the Earl Grey we chose was fine.

AMBIENCE & SERVICE
Lincoln’s famous Steep Street is quite a competitive place for establishments offering cream teas. Bells’ Tea & Coffee House offered a warm, friendly environment and the table and floral china were clean.

SCORE ~ 6.5/10 Good
