SCONES
A choice of large, very impressive-looking plain, fruit, or even savoury scones encouragingly labelled “Our famous scones!!”
We chose a fruit scone each and (based on their size), couldn’t even imagine consuming two per person. On cutting, we found they were a little on the heavy side (and rather dry for our taste) so availed ourselves of the microwave oven provided for baby-food etc. and warmed them slightly.
CREAM
There was a sufficient quantity of clotted cream served in a plastic dish.
JAM
As we have found at many National Trust properties, there was a good choice of different jams in the Wilkin & Sons ‘Tiptree’ range, supplied in 28g jars. We selected strawberry and raspberry.
TEA
No Lapsang Souchong, but the Earl Grey, Taylors of Harrogate bags were fine.
AMBIENCE & SERVICE
This is a canteen-style experience, which is never going to compete with the dedicated Tea Shop, or upmarket Hotel. However, for its type it was as good as we have encountered and for £7.00 for two cream teas represented good value. The NT property itself is well worth a visit!
