For a change this week here at Cream Tea Review, we thought rather than trekking out from our Headquarters, we would order a delivery ‘Tea and Scones’ gift box from the very smart looking website sconnoisseur.co.uk.
Would the scones be fresh? Would they survive the rigours of the Royal Mail? What would the jam and tea be like? Clotted cream isn’t included in the gift box, so we couldn’t carry out our usual cream tea review scoring, but nevertheless here are our findings:
SCONES
The Sconnoisseur website offers a mouth-watering choice of 10 different types of scone, including Traditional Fruit; Rose Water; Lemon & Poppy Seeds and our choice, Spelt Walnut & Dark Chocolate. Each scone in our box of four came individually cellophane wrapped and arrived in perfect condition—not as we imagined in a heap of squished crumbs! They were medium sized and had a wholemeal dryness which you often seem to get with Spelt scones, but they were enhanced by warming in the oven for 8 minutes. Lovely.
JAM
Four 30g mini jars of Bonne Maman Strawberry jam. The only other choice was ‘Orange’.
TEA
Four individual Twinings Earl Grey enveloped bags. The other choice was English Breakfast.
SERVICE
Sconnoisseur markets itself as a premium product brand, selling artisan scones with “a deep rooted love for the quintessential English cream tea”. We were initially impressed with the stylish website, but we were delighted to find that the delivery of their product was just as impressive. As you can see from our ‘Unboxing’ video, the gift box was beautifully presented in high quality packaging and the contents arrived well protected in perfect condition. We felt £14.98 (including £3.99 p+p) was excellent value and we’d definitely consider trying out some of their other interesting scone varieties, or ordering a box as a gift for friends.
Highly Recommended!
£15!? I can only find them for £30!
